Kate Hunt

Leads a programme of research on gender and health funded at the Medical Research Council’s Social and Public Health Sciences Unit at Glasgow University. She did her undergraduate degree in Human Sciences and a research- based MSc in reproductive epidemiology at Oxford University, and her PhD at Glasgow University. Her current research interests include the relationship between gender and health, health behaviours, and health care use; the impact of illness on people’s lives and identities; and the potential for gender-sensitised interventions to improve health and well-being.

Caroline Sime

Co-researcher on the breast cancer module. Caroline conducted some of these interviews as part of her PhD which compares men’s and women’s experiences of having breast cancer. Caroline graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1993 with a Bachelor of Nursing and RGN. She then worked in a variety of nursing posts before completing a Diploma in Community Health Studies and District Nursing qualification from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1997. Since then Caroline has worked in primary care, specializing in HIV liaison for in Edinburgh and Glasgow for several years. In 2002 she returned to generic district nursing. She has completed a nurse prescribing course at Glasgow Caledonian, and a Masters in Primary Care at University of Glasgow.

Alice Maclean (Gender and Health programme, MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit), Katie Buston  (Sexual Health and Families programme, MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit) and Claire McCann (Glasgow Caledonian University) also provided invaluable research support.
