Nic Hughes

Nic is a Senior Research Fellow in Palliative Care and  Lecturer in Nursing at the University of Leeds. At the time of this study he worked as a Senior Qualitative Researcher in the Health Experiences Research Group, Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. Nic obtained his PhD in medical sociology from the University of Glasgow in 2011. 

Sue Simkin

Sue has researched on self-harm and suicide since the early 1970s.  At the time of this study she was Research Associate and Co-ordinator of the Centre for Suicide Research in the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry.  She conducted 22 of the interviews and with Nic Hughes wrote the topic summaries for this project.

The study was funded as part of a National Institute for Health Research Programme Grant (see below) – Keith Hawton was the lead investigator.
