Dr Abi McNiven
Abi McNiven is a Senior Qualitative Researcher in the Medical Sociology & Health Experiences Research Group, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. Her research interests are focused on healthcare experiences and health services improvement, and she is the co-Principle Investigator for this study. Abi conducted all of the interviews, checked interview transcripts, wrote biographies, liaised with recruiting sites and participants, contributed to analysis, and edited the topic summaries for the site. She has previously produced eight sections for the HEXI website (on experiences of: acne, eczema, psoriasis and alopecia; pre-eclampsia; research nurses, midwives and allied health professionals; cohort studies; and urogynaecological conditions) and contributed to many other studies.
Dr Carol Dumelow
Carol Dumelow is a Qualitative Researcher. Her research interests are patient’s experiences and women and children’s health. Carol wrote the topic summaries. She has previously produced sections for the HEXI website on cervical cancer; cervical screening; parents of children with congenital heart disease; heart attack; flu or flu-like illness in chronically ill or disabled children) and conducted interviews, and been a research supervisor for several other sections.
Dr Anna Dowrick
Anna Dowrick is a Qualitative Researcher in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford. She is an interdisciplinary social scientist, spanning medical sociology, medical anthropology and science and technology studies. Her research explores how social injustice can be seen and acted upon through understanding experiences of health and illness, with a view to informing and improving the design of public services. She was a research supervisor for the writing of the topic summaries.
Professor Alan Silman
Alan Silman is a Professor of Musculoskeletal Health, an epidemiologist and a rheumatologist. He was Director of the UK’s Arthritis Research Epidemiology Unit in Manchester from 1988-2006, and then became Arthritis Research UK’s first Medical Director 2007-2014. Alan is the co-Principle Investigator for this study. His current research interests are mainly in the field of comorbidities and their relation to health care and health care outcomes and the use of ‘big data’ to address these issues.
Sabrina Keating
Sabrina Keating joined the Medical Sociology & Health Experiences Research Group, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford, as an Ann McPherson Research Fellow in 2021. Her research interests include women’s health and medical technologies. Sabrina checked interview transcripts, contributed to analysis, wrote biographies, and aided with administrative tasks on the project.
Maeve Moran
Maeve Moran joined the Medical Sociology & Health Experiences Research Group, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford, as an Ann McPherson Research Fellow in 2022. Maeve’s primary research interests are in healthcare quality and organisation, with a focus on digital health interventions for care delivery. She is particularly invested in the application of user-centred design approaches for health technology development, an area in which she is currently undertaking a doctorate. Maeve has additional research interests in chronic disease, multimorbidity and geriatric wellbeing. Maeve checked interview transcripts, contributed to analysis, wrote biographies, and aided with administrative tasks on the project.
