Sleep problems in later life

Overview

In this section you can find out about the experience of sleep problems in later life, by listening to people share their personal stories on film. Researchers travelled all around the UK to talk to 33 people in their own homes. Find out what people said about issues such as changes in sleep, worries and impact on daily routine. We hope you find the information helpful and reassuring.

Dessie: Well, I think all my life I've been a very early riser, and my mother was very strict with early to bed and early to rise when we were little children. And I think that stays with you.

Joyce: And, and I've always tried to keep busy so that when I go to bed I'm exhausted. But some nights I might get six hours and another night it might only be about three.

Sue B: Yes if I find I'm not dropping off I think oh I’ll just take a few slow deep breaths and I think that helps. Yeah, but I think you mustn't toss and turn, I think that's very bad.
